Our Origin Story
"LC Makers was founded in January 2017, after a friend showed me an ad for a Maker Faire in Newport and suggested that it looked right up my then very busy and precocious 5 year old son, Carver's, alley! Wow, was that an understatement! The event was full of giant bubbles, designing & testing your own paper rocket designs, circuits, coding & robotics, a DIY hover car and much more! On the way home, Carver, in only the way a 5 year old would, asked: "Can we have a Maker Faire in Little Compton?!" The idea of LC Makers was born! And here we are 8 1/2 years later. I am so appreciative of the many amazing people and grantors who helped make the idea for this program a reality! And our board, staff and program leaders continue to be grateful to the many contributors that allow LC Makers to operate year after year!" 🥰~Heather Helger, Founder & Chair
